Help. I'm Being Held Hostage

totally sucked in

THURSDAY, AUGUST 19

So I used to read a lot when I was a kid.  But ever since I became a mom, my reading has been reduced to "Goodnight Moon" and the occasional People magazine.

But knowing that I had - gee I dunno - 12,000 hours of airplane and airport time ahead, I decided to get a real book.  And the buzz on this one was too much to ignore.

I didn't know what it was about and refused to read the back cover.  I just bought it, opened it and dove right in.

And now I am its hostage.

Because I CANNOT put it down.  I read while walking.  I took a shower and kept my page open so I could pick up where I was while drying off.  (And subsequently forgot to rinse the conditioner out of my hair.)

I was DETERMINED to get through this book before tomorrow's arduous plane flying tomfoolery so that I could start book 2.

All I can say is that I am captivated by the heroine in this book.  She is by far one of the best female characters ever written, in my humble opinion.  And yes, I know that Hollywood is all on this one so it is even more imperative to me to read the books before they screw it up.

Up until now, I have mostly read autobiographies over the last couple of years:  Chelsea Handler, Marilyn Manson, Anthony Keidis, Jenna Jameson, Henry Rollins.  Oh and Warren Zevon.  All pretty good books, actually.  I think I started with Marilyn Manson's book and it got me going on this biography kick.

It is ridiculous how much I am enjoying this book.   And maybe its because I haven't read fiction for a really long time.  Or maybe it is just a darn good story.

I dunno.

But when I grow up I want to be Salander.  (That would be the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.)

I have 40 pages left and have to get to the store to get book 2 before my adventures begin tomorrow.  As ridiculous as the next 24 hours are going to be, I am glad I am in good company in the form of a novel.

Keeps my mind off of everything else.

  1. OMG! I did something before you! I love love love the first two and my friend has the 3rd, but with 5 kids, I never read for pleasure so you will finish 3 before me!

  2. I've heard nothing but good about the book. I guess I'll have to shell out and buy the damn thing.

  3. Yep, I am on book 3. And I am trying not to gobble it up. I'd send you my copy of book 1, SB, but I ended up giving it to a stranger at an airport.
